What makes a Book/Story Great?

I had this question for a long time, trying to figure out the right components to a great story. What makes a book /story  great?

This one is a no brainer as far as I am concerned the book must have action and enough drama to hold my attention. The answer to this question varies from person to person.

The book must be captivating and intriguing to say the least.

I also think that it is cool if I can relate to the main character in some way.

I like when books describe events and scenery rather than telling. If a book can show you without telling you, you have struck gold.

Well thats what I think makes a great read!

What do you think a good book or story has to incorporate?

Starting From the Bottom

images (1)

Much like the song  “Started From the bottom”, we all have our starting points in life . Some start from the bottom others start from the top.

Some have silver spoons in their mouths, others have to fight for the spoon. Wherever you find yourself the great news is that you don’t have to stay there. The sky is the limit for either situation.

When you are starting from the bottom, be it financially, socially, or location wise you have to focus on the positives.  You have to take chances and risks that others might not agree with. I’m not saying do anything drastic, I am saying do something to climb from the bottom to the top.

As I mentioned in my last post, I talked about feelings. Those are very important in the process of transitioning. You must have the right mind set as it relates to progress. You  must believe in yourself first and be willing to wait if you have to.

If you feel that you will always be at the bottom you will. If you never do anything to leave the bottom, wherever that maybe, you will still be there.

One of the most important things is to remember that no matter what you do, you will be critized. You might make a mistake, you might do something that people never want to admit that they have ever had the audacity to do. You might do a good thing and it might be evil spoken of. Never let that stop you.

You can take from your time at the bottom. If your  bottom is lack of money and your working towards  that goal of being financially secure once you finally reach the top, your then able to help someone else.  Being a witness that because you start at the bottom you don’t have to stay there.

Much comes out of nothing, rather it be revelation, determination, new dreams, hopes, goals and ideas.

Don’t be discouraged when your at the bottom by people who pretend to be better than you. For they have something hide for all their need to eject their arrogance. It takes time to make progress as it s not a over night thing.

Always remember there is room at the top. That’s where I am going.

Who’s coming with me?

Be sure to say your on your way to the top! Comment, share and follow.

What gaming means to me…………

It’s been a little while since I posted anything so this time I wanted to ask a question. What does gaming mean to you?

Gaming for me is more than picking up a controller and starring into a television screen. It means so much more to me. As for myself it allows me to communicate with my friends across the world.  I can escape the realities of life and take on challenges that I can complete at my own pace.

For some gaming could be an escape from the chaos all around them, rather it be their home surroundings or the complexity of a dysfunctional family. Gaming can help you cope and relied stress. To some who take it seriously games could do the opposite and cause frustration.

To those who look at gaming as a nerd cult phenomenon I say, look again, and this time when you look see a hobby that is just as important as reading or writing. See an option for some to avoid crime and get caught up in the negativity, drama or gang related activity around them.  See gaming for what it really is, an interactive experience! An experience that can be shared from generation to generation.

I am proud to say that I am a gamer. What about you? What does gaming mean to you? Did people assume things about you because you were a gamer? Be sure to follow and as always comment!

A Lover Scorned

images (5)

Were you sold on the hype? Did you read the fine print of the on game box and expect to have the experience you read about? Did the game you’re playing need patching to fix game bugs and add content that was advertised on the box?  If so you have been a victim of marketing 101.

Call the lovers scorned hotline….. Okay, so there is no real hotline but unfortunately we as gamer’s have been promised complete games by developers and we don’t always get them. We spend hours playing games only to reach the end and not be satisfied with our experience. Either the game ends abruptly or the ending is far from the story line.  This will leave you, a video game lover, scorned. Once scorned you vow to never play that type of game again and never recommend it to your friends.

The same can be said about a book. You can make it all the way through a book and get to the end and be disappointed by what you see because it just doesn’t add up. In this case you become a book worm scorned.

Can you relate to being a lover scorned?  What games have you played that you were let down by recently? How about a book? Share your thoughts.

At The Tree Top – Poem

images (1)

Here is another Christmas poem by me titled:

At The Tree Top.

Guess Who I am? I am at the top I see it all,

happy faces on Christmas morning,

shredded wrapping paper

and cardboard packages scattered around the room.

With pride and dignity I shine

joined by others in their own community down below

Gleaming bright, I make the light and keep my balance

I’m admired near and far, I complete the package, at the tree top

When Christmas comes I’m just as excited  as family members are all reunited, as I watch at the tree top.

When Christmas goes I am the last one you see, as I am taken from the tree top

Never fear I’ll be back next year here at the tree top.

I hope you enjoyed this poem. I would like to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas! I hope that day brings you lots of joy and peace. You may not get what you want, but if you live to see Christmas day, you have what you need,  and that is your life!!! Seasons Greetings and Blessings to all!

Currently Reading- Mike Tyson Undisputed Truth: My Autobiography

This is a short post of the book I have been reading.

Mike Tyson is no stranger to the world.  One of the best in boxing has written an Autobiography detailing his life. Tyson tells his side of the story of the events that occurred in the public eye. From beginning of the book you are thrown into the action and the mindset of the boxing legend.

His honesty and realization of who he is as a person comes across in every word on the page. I enjoy this because there isn’t any sugar coating . I definitely recommend this book.

My Quest To Be Unique

When I started this blog I initially knew how I wanted it to become.  I wanted to be able to release content daily, but often struggled in coming up with things to write about. I quickly found out what worked for me.  It is important to me to not be similar to the blogs around me in terms of my approach.

I am thankful that I have been accepted and welcomed among the elite bloggers here on WordPress. Most of them are my friends who I look up to. However, I quickly found that it was popular to be negative. For some reason one could write about negativity without regards to anything and still manage to get views.  You will never find that here, unless I am in rant mode which will be a rare occurrence.

Having said that I hope that each and every person who reads this blog and my followers are pleased with the content that I have written about.  I really had no idea that I would be writing this long.

I hope you’re enjoying the ride as I am on my quest to be unique.  Thank you.

Obession, Alter Ego and Madness – Books I reccomend!

Books I recommend as gifts for the Holidays that deal with Obsession, Alter Egos and Madness.

1. Juanita Bynum’s No More Sheets.

no more sheets

This book talks about being set free from the obsession of sex spiritually and naturally. For some people this can be an obsession and can turn into madness.

2. Glass- By: Ellen Hopkins.

This book is part two of a book titled Crank.  In this book the main character continues to deal with crank and operates in an alter-ego of sorts. She is with child and unable to escape the need for crank and ends up on glass. She is now obsessed with drugs and attention. Glass ends up being worse than Crank. These books are also a good read.

3. Monster- By: Dean Walter Myers.

This book is about a young man who was arrested and sent to jail for being a lookout in a murder of a pharmacy store owner. He struggles to find out if he is the monster that people think he is. His obsession to find out who he really is inside turns to a type of madness in terms of pure hard thoughts and in the end it produces a change in him for the better. This book is also a good read.

4.  The Joker by: Brian Azzarello.

the joker book

This story is shaped around the jokers release from the Arkham Asylum and his obsession in wanting to cause trouble in Gotham City. This is shown from murder’s downright old trickery which Joker does well. My list wouldn’t be complete without this book as I am a fan of Batman and Joker.

5.   Finally, for my last book that I recommend would make a great gift of book to read is

James Patterson’s 1st to Die: A Women’s Murder Club Novel.

1st wifes club

This book starts the beginning of the murder club series in which we find a set of Women beyond obsession with their specific duties as detectives which leads to after work solving.

These are just some books that I have read in the past and recommend as gifts.

Always remember, who you are!

There’s more to you than what more the eye.for who you are

You are one of a kind, there is no one in the world like you.

In this post I wanted to encourage and offer a few words to help you through the remainder of 2013.

For many, this year was the best year ever, and to others it could have been a living nightmare…. Whatever your situation remember who you are.

You are intelligent, savvy and sophisticated, chances are if you’re reading my blog you are a gamer or an English Fanatic.

Gamer’s motor skills are constantly being fine-tuned by the games they play.  English fanatics minds are constantly being improved and challenged through the material they intake.

Always remember who you are and be proud of that fact. If you are going to change, change only for the better.controllerimagesU7YOB1ZC

An Undeniable Truth

This post will go beyond the surface of our reality to expose the truth.

I know your thinking he is going off the deep end. All I’m saying is I will go deeper exploring topics . Hopefully, this is something your not used to.

Some might say im outta my league, however, I will always be able to relate it back to what my blog is originally about litetature and gaming .

The truth is we are in the last and evil days and the world that your grandmother told you about no longer exists. The world that had the golden rule, treat people how you want to be treated. That rule still exists but some people aren’t following it.

Let me explain:

When people are getting hurt over a video game console something is wrong.

When you can’t like a game company name that starts with a N and ends with O (Nintendo) without being teased something is wrong .

When you have all these commercials feeding you and telling you whats popular currently and to buy it now without allowing you to think that some of those very items will be old the next month or following year, something is wrong.

The truth is, some rules have changed, up bringings are different, morals are different, all these things make a difference in the world we see today.

How does this relate to literature?

Elements of our everyday life, fact or fiction, are trapped within those pages. What our world is becoming is trapped in those pages. Some of those stories about heroism, defeat and triumph speak volumes about a portion of our lifes.

It’s not all doom and gloom as books and video games can take us to unknown lands. I just thought it was important you knew the undeniable truth before you start your journey.

This post was deep and may not gel well but those are my thoughts on a few things. Be sure to share your thoughts on this.
