Writing for Numbers…………………

comment-follower-stats

This was a post I did years ago I thought it was still relevant today had to repost.

In a world filled with click bait, lie’s and copy cats, I find myself asking the question do people really care what I talk about? Does the fact that I write according my to my own schedule really matter? Does the content have substance?

Have I began to write for numbers? You know, write for views? Am I a view junky?

The answer is yes and no. I admit I do look at my stats and pay attention to what people like the most.  I do see a pattern.  In no way do I want to jeopardize my feelings or views on a subject just so I can get views.

I used to share my writings on Facebook, which allowed me to have a larger audience but I found that people weren’t really paying attention. I would have to beg people I considered friends just to read my content.  I got to the point where I said I will not share content through this medium but I will make it available to those who would want to see it via a link. That will show me if people really cared.

I must share with you all that in the amount of time that I have had this blog that it has continued to grow. It means that I have a voice and that people are enjoying the content that I write.  I don’t write frequently because I believe in having content that provokes deep thought as it relates to gaming, literature and life.

. I admit it is a challenge trying to establish, maintain and exist among such talent here on WordPress.com. However, I believe that if you write from the heart and are sincere in what you believe that the people will follow you. I can attest to this fact, as I now I am nearing 136 followers. For some people this maybe miniscule number but for me this is no small accomplishment. I’d rather go slow and gain the trust and interest of people than to rush and offer nothing different from the millions and millions of people that write on here every day.

I am grateful for my place here on WordPress and I am grateful to my fellow bloggers who have reached out to me and have shared my content with others. I can never allow numbers to stop me, I hope you will not either. Remain encouraged regardless of what your stat pages shows, keep writing and know that your audience is on the way to you if you remain consistent in your ability to engage them.

Never take numbers as an indicator per say but keep going. I am not saying be ignorant to the numbers I am saying if you keep working hard in the paint, when you lift your head up you will find you’re not alone in the paint anymore!

To my fellow writer’s, bloggers, followers, friends, or anyone in general, never compromise in what it is that you believe and what you want to accomplish! Please don’t only write for numbers but let it be in your heart!

Thanks for reading and make sure to follow, comment and share!

I’m Jumping Outside the box are you?

So this post is personal and I am sort of being vulnerable but I don’t mind. At least you will have some sort of sense of who I am as a person.

*I want give a disclaimer, you might feel as with this being a so called gaming site that I should only talk about games but I am finding out that its more deeper than gaming. Life, literature and gaming all counter act with one another. *

Onto my point,

I’ve always played it safe when it came to my life and existence. I never wanted to be that person who went all out and did it for the vine sort of speak.

I always kept to myself and mind my own business. I think it was for this reason that I garned so much respect in terms of my friends who often came to me for advice on various situations.

To say the least, I think that the advice that I offered often surprised myself as I could not believe such nuggets of insight and wisdom were flowing from me.

I have been in the box primarily all my life as it relates to how I felt about myself, I had ideas but I rarely would act on it.

As a matter of fact, this blog was something that I procrastinated on for the longest time. You’re probably wondering why I am sharing all this with you?

When I produced this blog it was birthed from an idea and became some much more. I have decided to jump out of the box and not be manipulated, controlled or dictated to by anyone.

I have my hater’s don’t get me wrong, those who think that their opinion matters and that my business should be their top priority. In reality their two cents isn’t worth a penny so they really don’t matter.

I say that to encourage you again. I want you to take whatever negativity you are experiencing in life and jump outside the box that people are trying to trap you in. I have decided to jump out of the box as it relates to being sure about myself and using the negativity as positivity. Use it to encourage another person.

Living without walls is another option I present to you. I look forward to sharing with you my experience with this very metaphor.  I know as of late I have not been talking about gaming, However, I know that all these things eventually go together.  So at this point, I encourage you to jump outside the box, whatever your box maybe.

As always thanks for reading. Please comment share and follow. I really appreciate that you took the time to come read my blog.

Video Games, Life and Theories

Should video games only be played by those who are responsible?

What do you mean by responsible you ask? I mean those who are able to make the choice between right or wrong and accept responsibility for their actions.

This post is going to be pretty deep. I have had the chance to write on various topics as it relates to video games and there have been a few theories that I have ran across.

*Let me make a disclaimer, I am not trying to be politically correct, I am just stating my opinion and talking about theories that exist. My use of these theories just taps the surface as it relates to people. If your are interested in them please do study further!*

One theory is rooted in Criminology and the other psychological.  Two philosophers come to mind, Bandura and Akers.

First Albert Bandura, with the Social Cognitive Theory, which suggests that learning occurs from society and it’s actions and what is learned through observation. We are also influenced by those who we can relate to.  There is also indirect learning which is not always applied to our behavior. The product of who we are is the product of interaction of interaction between cognitive, behavioral and contextual factors.  We as people are influenced in ways that we aren’t even aware of.

Next, The Social Learning Theory as it relates to crime, by Ronald Akers states, The chances of a person engaging in criminal and deviant behavior is increased and the chances of their conforming to this norm is decreased when they differently associate with others who commit criminal behavior are more exposed in person to criminal/ deviant examples and expect greater reward than punishment for their behavior.

So what does this all mean? What does this have to do with video games?

Well, let’s start with the first theory, though both are similar they differ a bit. Social cognitive theory, speaks to learning through observation and being influenced by those who you can relate to. In terms of gaming, this can mean one playing a game and immediately begin to be influenced by the character on the screen. For example, someone is playing Grand Theft Auto they would go around in real life killing (an extreme example) though relevant.  They are influenced by the character and or the environment in the virtual world. This also speaks to the environment and surroundings as well in real life.

The next theory Social Learning theory speaks to the criminal side of things. Perhaps one direct environment. You are a product of your environment and as such are influenced by it. If one is in a high crime environment they can be influenced by this and the chances are high that they will participate and the decision is based on the pros and cons and punishment of a particular crime.

How does this relate to gaming? Gaming is a fun hobby to be a part of and sometimes it is blamed or comes up in the most violent crimes. Mass murders occur and it is said that the killer was an avid video game player. Most of the time these people might have mental disorders which all affect reactions and influence and their ability to separate the real from the fake.

This brings me back to my question, should responsible people only be able to play video games? Should people who know how to separate real from fake only be allowed to play?

Is there a method to find out if someone will not copy the actions of a particular video game?

Ok, I’ll answer this. I think by looking at past history as it relates to responses to situations should be the deciding factor. I think that video games are fun and those who play them should have fun but not be influenced by them.  Video games should be played by those who are responsible.

What are your thoughts about video gaming should it only be played by those who are responsible? Do you agree with the theories as it relates to human behavior? How do you feel about video games getting a bad rap in cases of extreme crimes?

Judging on the outside without looking inside.

You know the saying don’t judge a book by its cover?  We all know it but still do. The cover on a book doesn’t necessarily reflect the contents with in.

Same goes for games, the cover art could portray details contrary to what the actual game is about,  A good book is worth reading no matter what it looks like,

If you take the time to play the game and or read the book you may be surprised about the content.

We even do this to each other in life, looking at another and summing them up by the way they act initially before we even get to know them. This is totally wrong. We should know a person before we assume things about them.

You might say that gaming is just gaming and a book is just a book but it goes deeper than that.  If you chose to do this, you would miss out on getting to know a person.

Next time you see a person who you may not know, get to know them before you make an opinion about them.  As always like, follow and comment. Thanks for reading.

Black men in the video game industry ……………………..

downloadimages (1) images (2) images (3)

As promised, here are my thoughts on black men in the video game industry. Of course there are black men in the industry who are involved in developing games. Their are spokes persons, those who do Quality Assurance, also known as game testers and finally those who develop games.  In terms of the industry, there aren’t that many black men in the forefront.

I can name Hip-hop gamer who is video game journalist, as someone that comes to mind as a black male in the industry. Sure, there are plenty of people who are doing their own thing independently, but not for major websites and companies. The fact remains there aren’t many who are main stream that I know of.  I have seen a few, they either have their own special area in which they are only used for a particular thing or they are deep in the background.

It seems that there are more black males that play video games than those who choose to get involved. I know this topic has been talked about before and as time passes I know it will get better.

I want to see people who look like me talking about games, working on games, being in the forefront. I am just speaking on a observation. This is not to knock anyone doing their own work independently or to any other website representing them that I am not aware of. I just would like to see more diversity involved in our favorite pass time.

Certainly video games are played by all types of people but I can’t help but feel that not enough diversity exists. It’s not a black or white thing, but it’s a gaming thing. Everyone should be involved if they choose. I feel that popular sites should definitely take this into consideration when hiring as they want to reach people.

What are you thoughts on this post? Do you feel that race or diversity is a issue in the main stream video game industry? Do you see more of a certain race than another? Be sure to like, comment, share and follow.  Thanks.

A Lover Scorned

images (5)

Were you sold on the hype? Did you read the fine print of the on game box and expect to have the experience you read about? Did the game you’re playing need patching to fix game bugs and add content that was advertised on the box?  If so you have been a victim of marketing 101.

Call the lovers scorned hotline….. Okay, so there is no real hotline but unfortunately we as gamer’s have been promised complete games by developers and we don’t always get them. We spend hours playing games only to reach the end and not be satisfied with our experience. Either the game ends abruptly or the ending is far from the story line.  This will leave you, a video game lover, scorned. Once scorned you vow to never play that type of game again and never recommend it to your friends.

The same can be said about a book. You can make it all the way through a book and get to the end and be disappointed by what you see because it just doesn’t add up. In this case you become a book worm scorned.

Can you relate to being a lover scorned?  What games have you played that you were let down by recently? How about a book? Share your thoughts.
